In Caroline’s Own Words

I think alot of my intuition is all apart of how I am assessing my patients and their status. Every work day I start with getting reports and then assessing the patient myself…throughout my assessment I am constantly listening to what may alarm me. Especially my patients that are intubated and cannot talk. For example I recently had a very critically ill patient with a massive brain injury and throughout the day my patient began to become more restless as we moved him and turned him…listening to my intuition I felt that he was in pain and sure enough he was more stable with some Medication. Another example is when I did not listen to my intuition. – I was going to give an IV med and did not know exactly how long to give it but was in a hurry and went ahead and gave it even though I had that feeling that I should look it up and sure enough he had a mild reaction that could have been avoided…
