Self-Soothing is a pathway to spiritual growth

What are the intuitive pathways that can be incorporated into the family environment to encourage confidence and independence? The ebook, Raising a Happy Spirit: The Inner Wisdom of Parenting lays out the chapters on intuitive pathways in easy to follow steps that are best introduced at young ages, but can be productive when used at any stage of development during a child’s life. These pathways are tools that encourage spiritual growth.

This blog will focus on the second pathway: Self-Soothing

Self-soothing is the ability to provide comfort to yourself when you are in pain or in an uncomfortable emotional state. Many parents feel it is their job to always soothe their child, even when unnecessary.

10 Intuitive Pathways of Parenting

What are the intuitive pathways that can be incorporated into the family environment to encourage confidence and independence?  The ebook, Raising a Happy Spirit: The Inner Wisdom of Parenting lays out the chapters on intuitive pathways in easy to follow steps that are best introduced at young ages, but can be productive when used at any stage of development during a child’s life. These pathways are tools that encourage spiritual growth. They are:

  • Touch
  • Self-soothing
  • Imagination
  • Emotions
  • Role-playing
  • Humility
  • Forgiveness
  • Compassion
  • Truth
  • Interdependence

This blog post will focus on the first pathway, Touch.

Touch is one of the most powerful forms of bonding. It creates an energetic connection that affects the resonance within the individual who is receiving the touch. It is a non-verbal way of saying a variety of caring, loving expressions such as “I love you,” “Please listen to what I am saying because it is important,” “I care about you,” and “I am here and present with you in this moment.”

Children and Intuition

Our children are growing up in a society with many unhealthy outside influences that can lead to drug addiction, self-esteem issues, acting-out behaviors, apathy and no direction or purpose in their lives. Parents have the opportunity to counteract these negative patterns by incorporating the intuitive pathways. When children learn to get in touch with a deeper part of themselves–the part that feels, listens and experiences the world in a comprehensive way–growth and enlightenment actually happen.

What is intuition? It is usually referred to as the inner voice—something that often arrives as a feeling rather than an intellectual, reasoned thought. It may start as a physical sensation, a feeling or an idea that pops into your mind out of nowhere and moves through your body and urges you to listen. We are all born with intuition. Intuition is what helps us determine right from wrong. When we pay attention to our intuition, it can protect us in dangerous situations, help us discover our life’s passions and desires and develop an inner trust for making good decisions.

Why is intuition important? The quick answer is that it leads to increased confidence and independence. When children are raised to listen to their intuitive messages, they learn to trust in their own feelings and thoughts. Decision-making becomes easier and more reliable.

Two Ways of Love

Within the expansion of spiritual awareness comes the concept of love. There are two ways of loving: one is with conditions (which is the way most people show love) and one is without any conditions at all.

Conditional love is based on control. It is when your behavior shows, “I will love you  only if…” but you don’t actually say it to your child. Examples of this are when your child does something that you don’t like that limits your ability to love purely, or, when you have an idea of something your child should be, but is not, and you hold back love. This happens all the time, and most people aren’t even aware that they are doing it. We like to think that we strive to give unconditional love.

“To love unconditionally, we love with no strings attached.” Click To Tweet

Loving unconditionally  is the process of allowing children to be who they are and loving exactly what you see in them. It has nothing to do with control and everything to do with freedom. It is the ability to celebrate your child in their uniqueness.

An example of spiritual living

When parenting you need to have rules and consequences for behavior, but sometimes what goes missing within the family dynamic is a depth of spiritual significance. This does not mean that you must be a church member or identify with a certain religion. It does mean that you get in touch with your spiritual self. When you use your creativity, humor and imagination to solve family problems, you are using the gifts of your spirit for the greater good. When you give yourself the space to be who you are, you will be able to grant your child the same kind of space in which to grow and allow them to learn about their own spirit.

Spirituality means searching for your truth, recognizing that people are different in their own unique ways, celebrating your gifts and learning to share them with the world for connection and healing. There is far more depth to your life than your everyday routine. Know when you are stuck. Have the courage and the inspiration to dig deep into your soul to know how to change for the better.

It is intuitive wisdom that tells us we can do anything our heart desires. Click To Tweet

If you pay attention to this intuitive voice, you will model this behavior for your children. Later, they will model this for their own children.

Raising children involves teaching them to search for their purpose and to learn to create their own happiness, to listen to their heart and feel the confidence to follow it no matter what others think. Parents must expect children to ultimately answer to themselves and not feel the need to impress others or seek unnecessary approval. The way to do this is to use your intuition. This is an example of spiritual living.

Intuition is one of our greatest assets as human beings. We are all born with intuitive wisdom, but we don’t always pay attention to this inner voice. As parents, we may not have been socialized to embrace our own intuition, so we don’t encourage our children to listen to theirs.  When parents give themselves permission to expand this level of awareness, it enriches their lives and overflows into the lives of their children.

Make Valentine’s Day a Family Affair

Julianna Lyddon spent another amazing afternoon with Channel 12 on the Arizona Midday show.  She shared some suggestions on how to make Valentine’s Day a family affair!  She says we can spread the love while you are spending the day together.

Some ideas to get you prepared and how to get started:

  • Have a prep party – have your kids invite their friends over to prepare valentines for school
  • Create a Valentine Phone Chain – Call loved ones that may be out of town and remind them that you love them and ask them to spread the love by calling someone else
  • Share the love – Get the family together to create and then to deliver and share valentines with those in nursing homes or closed other community centers and hospitals
  • Treasure Hunt – Make clues and create your own treasure hunt throughout the home or out at the park.  Use clues that are developmentally appropriate for your children’s age.
  • Candlelight Dinner with the kids – Ask your kids for suggestions on meals and have a candlelit dinner with their help in preparing and setting up.

Be sure to have a special date night with your partner at least once a month to keep a happy and healthy family unit.

Two Ways of Thought

When it comes to being a parent there are two important ways of thinking. When understood and put into practice, they create a solid foundation for your child’s growth and development.

Each child is an opportunity, not a property.  Each new life is a gift that you get for a borrowed amount of time. It is a beautiful chance for parents to guide and fill children with as much love, knowledge and inspiration as possible so they can be sent into the world as wise, self-trusting and responsible adults who know how to use their own intuition. These intuitive pathways encourage growth and personal power. Let your children know what a gift they are to this world.

Raising a Happy Spirit

Connect with Julianna

Hi I am Julianna Lyddon and I am a life coach and I have a Master’s in marriage and family and in child counseling. I’m also a teacher and a mother of three adult children.

I want to share with you some information about my book entitled, “Raising a Happy Spirit – the Inner Wisdom of Parenting.”

One thing that makes this book really unique is that it is a Minibuk and the concept behind Minibuk is that you can take a powerful message and put it into a small package and make it easy for people to pass the information around, easy to understand, and more importantly, easy to assimilate these concepts into your daily life.

And one thing I have learned in my private practice is that we need to develop deeper more authentic relationships with our children. Sometimes I see that there’s such a disconnect between parents and children especially as the kids start to reach kind of the adolescent period.

So I have provided some concepts in this book that will help you to teach things like compassion, humility, forgiveness, self soothing, interdependence. Now these aren’t concepts that are unfamiliar to you, however, sometimes we get stuck, we don’t quite know how to actually integrate these types of concepts int our daily parenting routine.
